It wasn't so much the physical completion of the mural after hours and hours of labor under a hot African sun that felt so good. It was the way we inaugurated these images into the community.
In short, we partied.
Eat well-balanced, nutritious meals (using only local ingredients)--especially for mothers and their children!
Use a condom to avoid ISTs and HIV/AIDS.
By the end of the party, we painted as many hands--large and small--that we could find and the community made their mark on their new wall, as a promise to "vivons une vie saine à Takalédougou" (live a healthy lifestyle in Takaledougou).Weird to think this will be my last major project before leaving. I've been particularly sentimental and reflective lately, but not enough to eloquently put it into words on this blog. Knowing me, this will be one of my last blog entries while I'm a PCV in Burkina Faso. I'll try to come up with something good before my time is up.

I am glad to see that you are okay, friend! I had read earlier this week that at some point in the recent past, PCV had been pulled from BF due to rising terrorism threats! I have thus been waiting rather cautiously for your next post, and now having read it, I am as relieved as I am proud of / for you. Come home to us, you African gem! Prepare yourself for one biiiiig hug : )
Hey Amanda! I love the murals and all the great things you are doing as a PCV. You are right...so much to reflect on, especially as you transition from Burkina Faso to the USA and then on to new adventures. I am so very proud of you and look forward to meeting up with you soon. Best wishes, Margaret
Hey Amanda - only just found your blog. This is really great stuff and you're very brave to be doing this. I hope you'll campaign for the underprivileged on your return to the States.
Amanda!!! Your works in PCV are amasing! i am so proud of you. It might be sad for you to leave Burkina Faso, but I'm sure you will have another great experience in your next destination.
I'm going to meet Stef (do you remember this guy from INU seminar?) this Saturday, since he came to Japan to do his fieldwork this year. I recall my precious experiencfe in the seminar vividly... It seems like it was only yesterday! I miss you so much, and hope to see you sometime soon in the future!!!
Love you,
Eri
